Hello, Cobweb

All of you faithful readers are familiar with the story of Asia, our kitten (If you're not, check out the previous entry Goodnight, Sweet Asia). Since she passed, we've been debating about attempting another kitten, and on November 2nd, we picked up the newest addition to the household: Cobweb. She's a three-month old Lynx Point kitten who came to us by way of our vet. One of his other customers found three feral kittens on her doorstep and has been taking care of them with the intention of finding other homes for them. She's been holding on to this one since the beginning of October for us.

Cobweb was very skittish the first couple days in the house. She spent all her time actively trying to find confined spaces to hide in. If we pulled her out, and hugged on her, she was mostly okay with that, but as soon as we stopped, she was off and running for a new hiding spot. There have been Hissy Jasmine moments, but they are getting much fewer - now usually only when the kitten sneaks up on her. Cobweb still likes to hide, but also comes out to play a bit. If we hunt her down and pull her out, she'll stick around and not just immediately start trying to hide again. Progress. Wasn't able to get so many pictures of her the first day or two, but once she started getting playful, it became easier.

[As of November 5th] Cobweb is trying very hard to be friends with Jasmine. Jasmine is mostly accepting of her, though she does still growl and occasionally hiss. It's getting better. They spent about 10 minutes this afternoon playing together. Cobweb's currently off hiding again. She likes to idle in 'safe' places, and if someone comes in and moves too quickly when she's out and about, she'll dart away and hide.

[As of November 8th] Cobweb will now come out of hiding on her own once we get home, though it does take her 15 - 20 minutes before deciding it's safe. Jasmine is now actively playing with her, though she has a low tolerance. That's what happens when your cat is seven years old. Jasmine has also started grooming Cobweb, and now only growls when she really doesn't want to play, or the kitten gets pushy.

And Jasmine is teaching Cobweb all the cool cat games like 'Wake Mommy up at 3:30 am so she can scritch you!' Jasmine's version of this game is to poke Lys with her paw until Lys rolls over and scratches her. Cobweb's version of this game is to chase her tail like a mad cat, bouncing off Lys and I while using her sharp-little nails to stay on the bed. Jasmine's version is the more user-friendly of the two. Jasmine is also desperately trying to teach Cobweb the joys of the Hairball. So far, Cobweb seems to be resisting this one. I can only hope she learns to resist the 3:30 wake-up call before one of us gives her kitty flying lessons...
