On Cleaning...

So today, I wake up and get dressed. I haven't even made it out of the bedroom yet when Lys looks at me and informs me we're going to be productive. Married guys, you know wnat I mean when I say "inform" in bold face.

"You are, are you," says I. (Note the subtle shifting from 'us' to 'her'.)
"Yup. We are," says she. (Note the not so subtle shift back to 'us'.)

So I start 'stuff.' I get a garbage bag. I help throw away stuff. I help sort stuff. I go get the boxes with books in them because she says she wants to clean off the bookshelves of all the stuff on them and actually *gasp* put books on them. She tells me which books she wants, and I bring them in.

Then, the insidious perfidy of her plan strikes. Two bookshelves. Two people.

"You never said I was helping with the bookshelves. You said you wanted to do that."

So I putter. I'm ADD boy anyway. Cleaning is always an adventure for me. No, really. So I after she convinced me I wanted to fully straighten all the shelves on my side, I did that. And started putting books back on them.

As I'm putting books on the cleared shelves she looks at me.

"Um, aren't you going to dust those?" she asks in that always loving wifely tone of 'You're about to get corrected, manly man'

"Dust?"

"Yes, dust."

"I hate to dust."

"I know," as she hands me a package of pledge wipes.

I give a manly sigh of suffering as I start dusting with great reluctance.

In the 'Guy Dictionary' cleaning and straightening to not automatically include dusting. Dusting is its own separate task. A sub-entry under Hell: Seventh Layer. It's right before Sunday without Professional Football games. See Dusting is worse than not watching Football!

You want me to dust you gotta specifically say 'dust.' You just tell me to clean or straighten and that's what you get. Junk cleared and other stuff straightened. That's what she said! Straighten!

Oh, but the kissing later. It was worth the dusting!

Wow...that conversation sounds familiar. We've reached a compromise, though. I don't vacuum, he doesn't dust. He does dishes, I do the rest of the kitchen.

Although all bets will be off when his Room of Manliness is complete.

Wow I normally request that Jessie doesn't clean. He never does it the way I want (and I don't want to stand behind him and tell him exactly what I want), and then I go back and do it again after him, which makes me mad that it is being done twice, so I figure I should just do it once.
Though he is always responsible for cat litter, garbage removal, and the drain wookie. Any heavy lifting or car cleaning is also left up to him.
I do the rest.

Hmmm. So THAT'S what happened when you were supposed to clean your room. You can come and help me clean anytime your little heart desires.
