Houston, We Have a Problem

I knew that it was tentative, I knew that it would probably change, but it's
still a letdown.

I called today to find out when would be a good time to come in and pick up
the protein shake mix that the doctor said he wanted me to use for a month
or so before my surgery was scheduled. The bariatric program director
answered the phone and when I told him why I was calling, he replied, "We
really only want people to do those for a week or two beforehand. Let's get
your surgery approved and scheduled first."

Me: "The doctor said he wanted me on them for a month."

PD: "Oh, yeah, he does that. Don't listen to him."

Excuse me? Don't listen to the SURGEON???? I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused
here.

PD: "Let's get your surgery approved and scheduled first." (repeated in a
slightly annoyed tone)

Me: "I'm tentatively scheduled for July 15th."

PD: *almost a snort* "I sent you a list of things we still need."

Me: "Oh, did you send it to my hotmail."

PD: *almost derisive tone* "No, snail mail. I do that when I want people to
have things in writing."

Me: *feeling like I'm going to cry now, as I see my surgery moving into the
'Someday' Zone* "Oh, yeah, *try to laugh* I forget people still use that.
Um...I'll try to get that stuff to you as quickly as I can, then."

PD: "All right. Goodbye." *with subtones of 'get the hell off my phone and
let me work'*

So much for the good feeling I've been carrying around for a couple of
weeks. I'm trying to hold out til I get out of work to cry. I'm not doing
well at it.
